REVIEW

This is not my get-go time reading this book, just this is THE volume that totally changed my heed about the characters and the series so I was excited to listen to this one. This audiobook did not disappoint!!

Content notes include graphic violence, torture, deaths, animal death (a pig and a chicken), assault, mentions of rape, presumed incest, mentions of sexual abuse and grooming of a teen, unaddressed trauma from the preparation and sexual abuse, homomisia, and misogyny.

So a lot has happened at the end of volume ii and Seth and Dom are on the run. Except…Dom has no idea who he is or who Seth is. That's right, this is officially an amnesia trope volume! I recall this trope tin be a hitting or miss for me, but seeing Dom being a more relaxed version of himself who realizes how he treated Seth in the past was wrong? Amnesia!Dom was similar a breath of fresh air. Information technology doesn't last forever, but it certainly gives the volume a much needed alter, I think. And found information technology actually interesting to see Seth accept charge and take to make all their life surviving decisions for them. It's quite a turn of events.

Nosotros also see the ~is this incest, is it non incest~ question addressed. A bit tardily in the game all things considered, but adept to get clarity where this is concerned. SPOILER: it is not incest and Seth and Dom are not related and Dino is not Dom's male parent. But for those keeping check.

We besides see the emergence of farmer!Seth in this volume and information technology is so hilarious seeing how long Seth has wanted chickens in this series. Do not arrive between this homo and his chickens! Chickens at this point is probably just number 2 in his life after Dom. I also tin can't believe what Seth names the chicken?? He is then ridiculous.

Seth also makes the worst decision E V East R in this series. Like, it's a BAD decision. Infamous fifty-fifty. I am still aghast how a man who should be in hiding from the mafia family who wants to see him dead has zero brain cells in the moment. Nix. And then thank goodness, Seth and Dom manage to wiggle (aka shoot) their style out.

I somehow forgot this is the volume where we meet Dana. Expect, I know she'southward not a lot of people'southward favorite, only I Dearest HER, okay? She's a little weird and mayhap fawns over Dom and his assassinator skills a lilliputian as well much, only she's AMAZING. She'southward admittedly ruthless merely can freely admit when she'south in over her caput. She comes a long style by the end of the series, and it's just so fun to encounter how Seth and Dom cross paths with her at the beginning. I didn't even realize it was Dana when the guys first run into her.

Another character I'm happy to run across once again is Santo! I beloved Santo! I remember the recommended reading order for Claret & Marriage is after this book? So, readers will just have to find out what the heck Santo ways when he tells Seth and Dom that Lucrezia (who is withal legally Seth's wife in instance anyone forgot), is now Santo's. I promise that there's an audiobook fabricated for that book as well?? I LOVE Santo and Lucrezia. But an interesting affair to note here is how fifty-fifty Federico, Santo's father, is unnerved past his own son in the epilogue. Federico is Atrocious and scum of the earth merely seeing him be all "wtf???" well-nigh Santo doing his ain thing is so funny to me.

I loved seeing Mr. Schwangau make an advent. This is Dom'south German encompass story/persona, and the accent Wyatt Baker gives Dom is nifty in the audiobook. Nosotros too hear Dom with an American southern accent in this audiobook and it's somehow both a cringe to me (every bit a southerner) but something I wanted to hear more of?? I am so conflicted.

I feel like Wyatt Baker does a pretty good chore with these audiobooks but I will say with this book where Seth makes a Borgia joke (like, the infamous crime family Borgia from Spanish? history), the pronunciation in the audio is super wrong. The audiobook says bor-gee-ah when the right pronunciation is bor-juh?? So that was kinda weird.

Overall, I recall this volume balances both fun and sexytimes with gruesome violence murder time, and it's only enough to remind yous that while this IS a romance series, information technology is as well a dark mafia series. It's a fine residual merely K.A. Merikan pulls it off and I tin't wait for book 4 when nosotros meet teenage Mark!
